“Pinoy”—pronounced pĭ·noi’—is the colloquial term for “Filipino”.
“MD”—for Medicinæ Doctor or Doctor of Medicine—is the degree conferred to graduates of medical schools in the Philippines.
Pinoy.MD | The Website for Filipino Doctors was founded in 2003 in the Philippines by Jose Maria Enriquez Ferrer, MD and Michael Hussin Braganza Muin, MD.
Dr. Jojo Ferrer is the Managing Director of Pinoy.MD. He is a Certified Family Physician of the Philippine Academy of Family Physicians, and serves as Consultant in its Committee on Informatics. He is also an active member of the Philippine Medical Informatics Society. Dr. Ferrer graduated from the University of the Philippines-College of Medicine. He has been connected with several Health Informatics projects, both locally and internationally. He used to be the Premium Services Manager of a US-based consumer health website. He is currently working as a United Nations Volunteer doctor in Trinidad and Tobago, involved in Public Health Informatics and Primary Health Care.
Dr. Mike Muin is the Editor-in-Chief of Pinoy.MD. He is a professor of Clinical Anatomy and Medical Informatics in Pangasinan. He graduated from the University of the Philippines-College of Medicine, and is earning a Master's Degree in Hospital Administration. Dr. Muin is also an active member of the Philippine Medical Informatics Society. He used to be the Medical Director and Project Manager for Asia-Pacific Operations of a US-based healthcare software company, developing Hospital Information Systems in the Philippines, Vietnam, and Malaysia. He has recently been accepted as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Medical Informatics in the National Institutes of Health-National Library of Medicine in Maryland, USA.
