Planning to buy a lens good for portraiture soon. Will ask my brother for help in choosing.

So, what camera and accessories do you have?

Hehehe... that's the brother I was mentioning above. ;)

Medyo accomplished photographer na siya sa amin sa Zamboanga. He's big and tall, kaya BIGMIKE Muin. Actually, sya nag-regalo sakin ng D40 ko.

Hindi digital SLR mo?

What's a Holga GN?

Leica has the best lens in the business. Kaya lang yung pocket camera nila (Leica C lux-1,2,3 hangang 4 ata) already cost $800plus.
Pinaka mura na nga but I am really happy with it. In the past, I had a Canon SLR and a Nikon pocket camera...I forgot what model na but I'm really impressed with the Leica. Like I said I'm amateur...point n click lang ako most of the time!

To my fellow paparrazzi and photography enthusiasts, I had discovered the wonderful world of Kodak Gallery. Actually there are many such services available even international in many parts of the globe. There is Shutterfly, SmugMug, MPix, Snapfish, etc...These are online printing. I uploaded family pics. At Kodak you can upload 200 pics all at once. Then I made photobooks. You can choose the cover and the page design and layout. It was just a click and paste kinda thing. After the photobook is made, you can order it and they will ship it to you. Finish product is like a book with the pictures printed in it. The images are quite good, clean and crisp. Except if the original pic was really blurry. The photo book was not bulky. In 50-60 pages I loaded 110-150 pics. the photobook was about 2 cm thick. Kodak is actually not the best but it is one of the best. For the diehards you can chose Shutterfly or more professional sites (could be a litlle more expensive siempre) check it out! :) :) :)

How much is the cost?here in the Philippines there are lots of shops which offer the same services, and since you are uploading hi res photos will this be secured from plagiarism?

Luis, it's about $50 for 50 pages containing 150 pictures. I don't know about plagiarism. Maybe a Polaroid or home inkjet printer will be needed for some pictures.

We used Snapfish heavily back in the US. We even had mugs and mousepads made. :D

For here, the best similar online service is Digiprint (http://www.digiprint.com.ph/). It doesn't have a gallery though.

Most of the online services are already available at the mall shops. Kodak and Photoline shops will have the capability to do mugs, shirts, mouse pads and even albums. Hindi lang siya as convenient sa US where you just order and it ships to you. Here, you order at the store, then might need to go back to pick it up in a few days. :( Pero pwede na rin. :D

I'm actually planning to have some photo mouse pads done soon. Sira na mouse pads sa bahay.

does anyone have experience with or feedback about the olympus pen?

Try googling from review sites. I think there are 3 versions of the pen - EP1, EP2 and EPL1.

http://www.dpreview....ews/olympusep1/
http://www.dpreview....ews/olympusep2/
http://www.dpreview....ws/olympusepl1/

The pen is a compact alternative for dSLRs but the initial feedback for the EP1 was the slow focusing when compared with other cameras (Lumix LX3 and Canon G11). I'm not sure if this has improved with the newer EP2 and EPL1 (I haven't read the reviews above :P). There are also other new compacts like Sony's NEX-3 and NEX-5 with changeable lenses.

I agree with hideyhole :) For now it would really be advantageous for you to go Nikon, unless you have more friends who shoot Canon and they are willing to lend you their lenses and other accessories. :laugh2:

On my part, I prefer Nikon's colors over Canon's. I actually have heard more Canonites shifting to Nikon because of this (though with the right post processing, you can achieve Nikon-like colors, too). But medyo napansin ko lately, mas gusto ko yung Canon colors when shooting portraits, pero pag sceneries and nature na pinag-usapan, hands down ako sa Nikon.

One more advantage of going for Nikon is that their entry-level lenses are already impressive. Based on what I've heard from my Canonite friends, if you want a really good Canon lens, you gotta shed hefty amounts of cash for those pro white-barreled lenses.

If you want to use old lenses, Nikon is compatible with a longer line of their older lenses compared to Canon. Correct me if I am wrong, pero parang Canon lenses made before 1980s are no longer compatible with today's bodies.

Advantage naman ng Canon is that their lenses already contain a built in motor, so most likely mag-a-autofocus lahat ng lenses na mabili mo. For Nikon, if your camera does not have a built in motor (entry level cams like D60, D3000, D5000), you gotta stick with manual focus for some lenses.

For me the biggest advantage of Canon is their customer service. They provide equal service to all Canon units regardless of the place of purchase. Sa Nikon kasi, if you did not buy your unit from Columbia (the authorized Philippine distributor), you'll be charged with a higher fee pag pinaservice mo unit mo.

Good luck! Whatever your choice may be, I hope you'll be happy with it.
