Hi doctor, i am interested in applying at POC for rehab med. Because of a number of factors, i must apply for midyear next year. Could i ask a few questions? 1. i understand there are two batches. If i apply April, will my pre-residency begin in May? Does it ever extend to June or is the pre-residency just a month? 2. I have no idea what to expect in rehab since we dont have this as a med school subject. Although, i have background as a PT, that was how many years ago. Any advice on how to prepare for this journey? What books aside from braddom and delisa?

Hi Connie,

the Midyear pre residency will start on April. It will depend on the number of applicants that will be applying. I suggest you give your application on March 1 with the basis of the requirements above. The presidency will only be for 1 month and will not extend further than that unless certain factors may require you to do so. If you start may, then you will end at the end of May etc.. I discourage June as a preresidency as that is the time for selection. We normally send our recommendations to the head of the Hospital during that period and then to the Civil service commission and DOH. We do this so that the count of the salary shall start on July 1.

PT may be of a great edge for you but Rehab is beyond PT or OT only. It focuses more on the medical aspects and function. I suggest you may want to start reading those two books.

as an accredited training program, we have conferences and reporting. It is a requirement of the Philippine Board of Rehabilitation Medicine.

About the 24 hour duties, It usually starts at 7:00 am to 7:00 am the next day. If it falls on a weekend, it ends at 7:30 am. If your duty ends on a weekend, you may actually go home as long as the next incoming resident has arrived and you have endorsed the patients to them. Furthermore, if your service consultants decided to do rounds on the day you are to end your tour of duty, you need to wait for them. (Almost all residency training programs do this. It is a fact unfortunately)

There have been queries regarding some requirements mentioned above particularly the PRC board rating of a new board passer.

If you still do not have your board rating yet, please go to the www.prc.gov.ph and search your name. click screen print and put a highlight on your name. This will serve as a temporary proof that you have passed the board exam.

Once you have received your board rating, you may then send a certified true copy of the said document to us.

thank you.
