Hello po sa inyong lahat! I need your help... I am planning to pursue medicine next year pero may biglang dumating na opportunity to work abroad (2 years contract). Kapag tinanggap ko naman yong work abroad, 26 years old or 27 years old na ako makakapag med (turning 24 na ako this december). Late na ba akong mag med if ever na ganon na ang edad ko? Naiipit ako between med and opportunity to help my mom. Sana may makabasa nito at magbigay ng advice. Thank you sa lahat!

Hi sourcingkid,

Going into medical school is very expensive (except if you are a scholar). However, don't put age as a hindrance of going into med school or pursuing your dream of being a medical doctor. I have known some Doctors now who went to med school in their 30's, and yet still pursued their residency training and now they are consultants in their own field. In other countries, most of the medical students are also in their 30'/early 40's. In the opportunity of working abroad in this time of desire need due to finances might not come again. Try to weigh those two pathways which could be the best for you. It's a challenge that God gave you and i'm sure you will choose the right path... :iagree:

Hi there! :)
Ang tanong po is, gusto niyo po ba talaga mag med? Mahirap naman kasi magsisi in the end na hindi kayo nag med just to help your mom. There are a lot of scholarships offered naman kasi. UP, PLM, etc. on the other hand, mahirap din magsisi na nagtapon ng five years when you realize na hindi mo pala gusto mag med and that could've earned a lot with your current job.

Kasi pag gusto po, then no need for a sign. Yun na yung mismong sign to pursue med.

26/27 years old ang usual start ng residency. So kung walang duda na gusto nyo mag med, then go for it na. Better to start young kaysa pag older. Although just because mid twenties ka does not automatically mean na mahirap na mag med, kasi some in fact start older (up to 30s, IMHO, is still perfectly fine).

It's really about the desire to be a doctor. Pro siyempre, do weigh the benefits vs costs. Remember that it takes 5 years to be an MD (GP), and another 3-5 years to be a specialist. If you have saved some money while working, then good. If not, aim for a 90-99% NMAT score, kasi a LOT of Med schools really give out some great incentives, like free lodging, tuition, books, food, etc.

Good luck!
