The Philippine Heart Center is accepting applicants for the four year Combined Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Residency Training for academic year 2017-2018.The successful applicant will commence his/her training by July 1, 2017 after a 3-4 weeks pre-residency in June 2017. The incoming first year will have the Medical Officer I plantilla with all the associated benefits for the post.The grade of plantilla positions is renewed and will correspond to the level of training of the resident once he is promoted.
The Combined Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Residency Training Program of the
center was established in 1975 and one of the few pioneering pathology trainings in the country.
The program will lead the graduates to board eligibility in both Anatomic and Clinical
Pathology for the diplomate examinations of the Philippine Board of Pathology.
It has since produced more than 35 board certified graduates from different regions of the country and practicing in the clinical setting,academe and research all over Metro Manila, Luzon,Visayas, Mindanao and overseas. The division currently accessions more than 2000 Surgical Pathology and Cytology specimens annually and supplemental rotations are provided by external postings to St. Luke's Medical Center in QC, Veterans Memorial Medical Center and Philippine Orthopedic Center. Elective rotation for completion of Autopsy requirements is provided at PNP General Hospital. The Clinical Pathology rotations are mainly at the division while the Blood Banking will be at the center's Division of Blood Bank and Transfusion Medicine. The resident trainees are on roster for the 24 hour duty every 5 days.
The residency has strong research culture among other programs and its residents consistently won
recognitions for their researches locally and abroad and were recipients of many travel scholarships.Research training is consistently provided by the research division of the center.The center also currently houses the National Reference Laboratory for Anatomic Pathology of Cardiac Diseases of the Department of Health since 2010 and will soon offer again the one year Clinical Research Fellowship Training in Cardiovascular Pathology as an optional training program during the 5th year.
The center has in-house facilities for Point of Care Testing, Frozen Section, Autopsy, Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy Clinic, Immunohistochemistry Laboratory and Medical Researches. There is 24/7 internet access for all your registered devices to facilitate learning process. We also conduct interactive lectures on special topics almost every week as well as CME activities for the medical technologists.
The current program has 6 consultant pathologists who are all Anatomic and Clinical Pathology fellow members of the Philippine Society of Pathologists and 4 resident physicians (one resident trainee per level).
RESIDENCY TRAINING APPLICATION PROCESS

External Rotations : St. Luke's Medical Center Quezon City, Veterans Memorial Medical Center, Philippine Orthopedic Center and PNP General Hospital
I. Submit the following general requirements to the Department of Education, Training and Research (DETR)
1. Medical Diploma and PRC Diploma (Certified True Copy)
2. Transcript of Records (Certified True Copy)
3. General Weighted Average (Certified True Copy)
4. Itemized Board Rating (Certified True Copy)
5. Three (3) Letters of Recommendation with at least one letter written by the Dean of school or former medical professors. Duplicate letter or photocopies will not be accepted and will invalidate application.
6. Five (5) pcs. 2" x 2" colored picture
7. PRC ID (Photocopy, back-to-back)
8. Fully accomplished application form and corresponding application fee
( Incomplete requirement will invalidate application)
II. Take the entrance examination covering General Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
to be given by the DETR on schedule.
III. Take the psychological test to be done at PHC-HRD (Human Resource Division)
on scheduled date to be assigned by DETR.
IV. Attend the interview by a panel from the Division of Laboratory Medicine and
DETR on scheduled date.
V. A 3-4 weeks pre-residency training is required to the successful applicant
prior to the commencement of the actual training and appointment as a resident.
The pre-residency requires the applicant to go on 24 hour duty at least once a week
and will have to present one lecture in Anatomic Pathology and one lecture in
