Dude, I would suggest you apply as Barge Medical Officer overseas - if you're after the moolah. PM me and I'll send you an Email address where you could send your CV.A safety officer friend who is connected with that company gave me that email address. It's a contract company based in Malaysia but expect to be mobilized anywhere if you're hired.I used to be a Barge Medical Officer for 8 yrs - 3mos on 1 mo.off - USD 4.5K/mo.+ 25% of your gross + project completion bonus(We get our check from US then since were on Expat contract). That was then, medyo mababa na daw ngayon dahil mismong applicants ang pumapayag sa mababa. But be warned that your professional growth will be stagnant.Nun kasing fresh out of MedSchool ako, out of desperation nakarating ako ng Pier to apply as Ship Doctor. ;-)

Vessel Physician...

15-18 thou/mo withfree meals...

Per sched ang travel and you will be assigned in a particular vessel... but if a ship needs a physician and you are the only one avialable, ikaw din ang iboboard...

Depende sa destination ng ship mo kung how many days a week ka makakauwi...

But before they hire you, you must have a seamans passbook... magttrain ka muna tumalon ng barko (na may big airslide, lumangoy, firefighting and konting CPR...

Mas OK yung Job if you are still single (according to the Capt. ha)... :eyebrows:

I was accepted but I got seasick even before I went on a voyage into the unknown

Merry x-mas and Happy New year to everybody!!!! with regards sa tanong mo....
:P :P and the pay is good!!! I mean very good!!!! :eyebrows: :eyebrows: .

hi there gary, regarding info on job description read on the articles sa career/jod hunting for newly grad physician and the rest of the post sa thread na ito. like you im also considering this profession. im currently preparing for USMLE. pero gusto ko muna mag rest kaya hanap muna work. i'd been researching for this for almost a month now. hirap nga lang kokonti info. ut according to this thread kailangan muna natin magtraining ng basic safety course for 8 days to get a seaman's passport. nag inquire na ako sa lahat ng major training sa metro manila and so far ang pinaka okay far east maritime foundation inc sa may UN ave. 5000 PHP ang bayad requirements lng nila ID pic and medical certificate. slight lng idea ko sa training. i plan to enrol this coming week. if your interested sumabay with me just send me a message. so far yan p lang ma i i share ko. wait after my training para makwentuhan kita. sayang nga mukang on boad pa iba ship doctors dito kaya wla tayo mahingan ng tulong. : )

Hi Gary and Bien...

Mga pare mahirap palang mag-hanap ng work as a vessel physician. Theres lot of waiting and jobs are so few and in between. Its hard to just wait na wala kapang ginagawa. Its not all peaches and cream as I thought.

I met a couple of of docs who are currently working as offshore physician yung isa sa vessel yung isa sa oil rig. Marami silang mga kwento sakin. But heres the catch they are both specialist who trained in Emergency Medicine. I figured it has landed them jobs dahil they have the extra training. Gone are the days na they are empoying non-specialist MD's as vessel or offshore physicians. They said it is an anvantage but theres no harm in trying, even if your not a specialist. They are not diplomates and all but naka-residency training sila. Sabi naman nila theres a lot of non-specialist physicians who are their collegues, but any self-respecting new graduate should think about this, while waiting siguro we should get muna training. Diko nga alam if theres any training short of a residency that would give as an advantage. in applying. Sana meron......

Oh well......Best of luck satin......

:bye: :bye: Hi GuyS!!!!!
I'm Back!!! Pasensya na po at medyo matagal-tagal me nawala.....umabot kasi ng 7 weeks last boarding ko dahil na-delay me sa Houston ng 1 week eh, ayun tuloy bakasyon grande kami......
Just to give some insights sa mga nabasa kong post sa thread natin....hindi po requirements na magaing medical specialist ka just to get in in this kind of job, GP nga ang mas preferred nila dahil hindi daw mababait daw.. :eyebrows: :eyebrows: , and about sa trainings, just finish first the BSC to get your seaman's book. and habang nag-hihintay ay try nyo muna pasyal as vessel docs locally...sa WGA may cntact pa yata me, yun nga lang maliit lang sweldo, pero libre ka naman psyal and dami girls!!!
About naman sa extra trainings, company provided na yung mga iba kaya madali na lang...basta ready ka dapat sa hilo dahil pag naswertehan mo ay sure na masaya ang maghapon mo...and sa salary naman po....depende yan sa grade/status mo when you joined, for me, sa 6 weeks ko ay abot me around $5-6....pero yung tropa ko ay almost $8 para sa 6 weeks tour nya.......Hope this helps!!!!!!!

welcome back doceric!

I've passed my resume to several agencies but the hiring for luxury vessel physician is not yet available until later part of April or May. so habang naghihintay nag apply ako sa local shipping companies in particular negros navigation. kulang n lng ako ng isa p training para payagan n nila ako magonboard. hopefully 2 weeks from now baka magstart n ako with them.

i've tried to apply also at WGA supercommerce for superferry, however my experience with their company is very unpleasant...i mean very very unpleasant. tumawag kasi ako sa office nila asking for vacancy... the HRD said wala pa for now pero i could drop my resume together with my other documents sa office nila. so i went there. pero pagdating ko doon pinagtabuyan ako ng guard papalabas ng lobby like a dog while shouting "hindi kami tumatanggap resume dito mag apply k sa internet". i have tried to explain sa kanya that i talked to certain HRD person on the phone at sabi nya dalhin ko sa office nila. pero hard headed siya to get the point na "bakit ako pupunta s office nila unless na sinabi sa akin to do so" kaya i have no choice but to leave. so after a week tawag ulit ako, same instruction din. to make sure dumaan din ako jebsen and they told to go to WGA supercommerce office. so punta naman ulit ako. and the bad expererience happened again. pinaktabuyan n naman ako like before. sa sobra inis ko i did not waste my time to argue anymore, umalis n lang ako and promise myself na never n ako magaapply sa company nila no matter what. dito ko lng na realize n mahirap pala talaga mag-apply ng work kahit doctor k n. wat more p kaya yung maliit na tao trying to get a placement specially sa company nila.

well i just want to share this experience para doon sa iba na gusto mag vessel physician din. FIN

I was wondering if you did not try nga to apply online? Baka nga mas madali i-facilitate. Minsan kasi talagang ganyan, not all personnel have good communication. Aldous Fernandez, doon kasi sya dati eh....and if you change your mind about WGA, tell me...try ko kung nandoon pa contact ko...si Vannie...he, este she's the one doing the scheduling for the docs eh.
And about doon naman po sa pay sir Mikemuin (Hi there!!) There was a time last year when my tropa handled the Catering/Scheduling works as extra overtime...and abot sya 8-10thou/6weeks.....pero nakakapagod na din kaya inayawan na rin nya later on.
Hayaan nyo at gawa me kwento about life at sea pag may time para malaman nyo kung ano ang sarap at hirap being a vessel doc or sa rig on shore work.

bien_po and everyone who is interested to apply to vessels.

Pansinin nyo...they have ISO 9001:2000 certification. Ibig sabihin me sinusunod silang quality assurance guidelines. Kasama dyan ang customer satisfaction ang efficient communication at all levels from the top to the bottom, pati guards. Dapat pati guards, alam nila that they have to satisfy these requirements. Employees, applicants and clients are all customers, the latter being external, and the former two being internal customer.

Kung ako sa yo, bien_po, when you had that experience you should have communicated that with the hrd, as well as with the one in charge of customer feedback (email at their website), to let them know whose ass to kick (that of the guards). I am sure the hrd did not mean for you to be mabastos ng mga hinayupak na guards na yan.

Kaya sa mga me balak mag-apply, pag me bumastos uli sa inyo, get their names and take note of the incident, time and date (in other words, make a documentation). Send this documented incidence to the Quality Assurance Manager or to whoever takes care of customer complaint. Yung mga gagago sa inyo, medyo gulatin nyo, takutin, in a nice way, that you know about this system, para bumait sila. Gusto nyo, bago pa kayo mag-inquire, medyo pasaringan nyo na kung ISO certified ba sila, kung sino and QAM, make sure that they know you are looking at their names sa uniform (dapat me identification silang suot; part ng QA yan). I saw two logos in their website.)

I call the ISO and QA as "cover-your-ass" thing.

bien_po and everyone who is interested to apply to vessels.

In reading the above posts, more than anything is the lessons i've learned to stand up for yourself and ways to outsmart the abuser of authority. ISO certified ba bar niyo!!! - ok ba banat ko?
