I heard the best ENT-HNS residency training is at East Ave.

Still there's UST and UP-PGH.

Ospital ng Maynila has a very good training program. They were one of the first to offer formal training in ENT-HNS. The "blue boys" that's how we fondly called them eons ago.

They have a dress code: Blue V-neck Scrubs with their name embroidered on the upper portion of the breast pocket, white pants, and leather shoes.
I'll try to ask my classmate about the program. Consultant na sya doon ngayon. :)

I suggest that you take your training in a government institution. I suggest you take it in either PGH or East Ave. East ave is very good when it comes to facial/plastic reconstruction, while PGH is the best when it comes to head and neck surgery, otology, and rhinology. The leading ORL minds in our country are in PGH. Examples are Dr. Chiong, Dr Yang, Dr Pontejos. The pioneers of ORL in the country are also in PGH like Dr Jamir, Dr Caparas, and Dr Jose.

hmmm... eto maitutulong ko...

here are the institutions (in metro manila) where the top 10 in the recent ent specialty boards came from: (in no particular order)

east ave med ctr
st lukes
ust
jose reyes
up-pgh

yung iba kasing nasa top 10 from the provinces, hindi ko alam exact name ng institution nila

the top 10 list is actualy unoficial because the president of the PBO-HNS (Philippine Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery) wanted equal treatment among all board passers. we juz found a way to sneak in and find out who was in the list.... but dont quote me on this.

balita ko yung nag exam from ust daw, sobrang pasaway during residency, but still made it to the top 10.. gago talaga yun... pero gwapo sya ha...

doc entcastromd, natawa naman po ako dun sa kuwento niyong nasa top 10 na pasaway nung residency pero gwapo...hehehe... :D may naalala tuloy ako... =) so government vs private talaga ito... magiting niyo man ako tawagin kasi gusto kong sumali dun sa parang operation smile after... saang hospital po galing yung nag-top? ang toxic ko po kasi nung internship, I swear!!! baka hanggang residency madala ko siya...=) well anyways I'm up to the challenge naman, ALWAYS, iyakin at first pero once I got the hang of things ay BIBO kid na ko....actually I'm considering east avenue din...=) thanks for the help....

wats really nice abt residency in ent, is that there are no competition among institutions. We help each other out. Meron din kming residents organization where we interact with different institutions and help each other... At ang lalakas nila uminom ha. before the boards, some candidates from all over the philippines joined us for a group review. Lahat ng sumali sa review pumasa sa specialty boards. Ang alam ko sa ngayon, tulungan na sa cases. Pag kulang ang institution nyo sa certain case, juz inform the organization and they will help in providing the case for you. Masaya ang ent residency. We never thought of other institutions as competition. Magkakaibigan lahat d2... Nagtutulungan..... Nag-iinuman.... Ooops.. Hehe

sobrang saya nyan.. tuwing convention (annual and mid year) may residents night... a big party for the residents from all over the philippines, pero everyone is welcome to crash in.

by the way: UERMMMC and Medical City also has their contributions in the top 10 list

not true... sa Philippine Board of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 10 cases ang requirement for thyroid surgeries, pero ung senior last year naka 30 plus na thyroidectomy cases, wala pa yung medical missions.

and hindi lang po thyroidectomy ang surgery ng ENT.

nasa tao lang talaga, kung gusto mo ng maraming kaso, maraming paraan.

and we do have enough laryngectomy cases...sapat for 3 seniors, kaya 3 slots lang per level ang allowed ng PBOHNS.

UST ENT-HNS residency training is approved and accredited by the PBOHNS. and we satisfy the required cases for the diplomate boards of ENT-HNS.

In contrast sa rumors na kumakalat...we also do cochlear implants 2x o 3x a month.

Malakas sa UST ang mastoidectomy/tympanoplasty and other rhinopharyngo surgeries

sa plastic maxillofacial, our current chairman is Dr. Roasa, who was the Asia Pacific Chairman for AO. we conducted in 3 straight years at UST ung AO post graduate courses. we also have Smile Train, they grant 400 US $ for every cleft nose. lip or palate patients.

hope I cleared this up.

check http://www.usthospit...laryngology.php

thanks.
